NEW: AmeriCorps JD Students, (Various Locations) 

Northeast New Jersey Legal Services (NNJLS) has two rewarding positions available for law students to serve as AmeriCorps JD Students with its Employment Opportunity Project. NNJLS is a non-profit public interest law firm with over 70 employees providing free legal services to low-income, senior and disabled residents of Hudson, Bergen, and Passaic Counties, New Jersey. NNJLS’s Employment Opportunity Project is designed to remove legal barriers to employment for low-income job-seekers by providing legal services to obtain criminal record expungements, correct credit reports, restore driver’s licenses, and reinstate occupational licenses. The program is offered in partnership with Equal Justice Works and AmeriCorps.

The AmeriCorps JD Students will build legal skills and experience by providing direct legal services, outreach and education with the guidance of an AmeriCorps Fellow and NNJLS’s team of experienced staff attorneys. JD Students will be responsible for conducting legal research, preparing legal documents and correspondence, interviewing clients, conducting community outreach and education events, tracking client outcomes, and other duties as assigned.

AmeriCorps JD Students must be currently enrolled in law school and possess strong research and communication skills. Each JD Student must complete 300 hours of service by December 31, 2016.  Start dates and schedules are flexible. JD Students earn a $1,212 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award which may be used for educational expenses or student loans, and they may independently pursue additional compensation through Federal Work Study Awards, law schools, local bar foundations, and/or other public interest fellowship award programs.

NEW: Law Office Manager

Non-profit law firm seeks Office Managers to run the day to day operation of its Hackensack, Jersey City and Paterson offices.  Northeast New Jersey Legal Services (NNJLS) seeks candidates with a college degree as well as experience managing a professional law office or non-profit organization.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.  The individual must be reliable, organized, detail oriented, and possess the ability to multi-task under pressure in order to meet deadlines. The office manager must be proficient in Microsoft Office and be able to quickly learn other software programs used by the organization. The office manager will be responsible for supervising and motivating support staff, managing the day to day operations of the office, implementing program policies, interacting with clients and staff attorneys, and assuming human resources responsibilities.
